12th Portuguese Congress of the AVC
Based on three important pillars - prevention, acute phase therapy and rehabilitation - the 12th Portuguese AVC Congress will be held on 1, 2 and 3 February. Scientific advances in this area, sessions and conferences with national and international speakers, presentation of national papers and discussion of controversial topics will be part of the three-day program, where there will also be space for a Stroke Course and an information session open to the public .
The president of the Portuguese Society of Stroke (SPAVC) and Congress, Prof. José Castro Lopes, highlights these three pillars that aim to reinforce all the work done year after year. First, prevention: "We have been working hard to prevent stroke, and yet we continue to have what we do not want - the sick." Then, the acute phase therapy, which is "one of the aspects most covered in the program of the Congress, always from the point of view of the most diverse therapeutic advances". Finally, "because despite the treatment there are patients with sequelae", the rehabilitation phase will also be addressed. "This is an area where everyone has been very interested in knowing more, as there are still many things to correct and improve."
Of note at the official opening session of the Congress is the intervention of Dr. José Miguel Júdice addressing the theme "Why is the stroke always behind the scenes?".
During these three days we will discuss topics such as:
- The vascular risk in Portugal
- Aging in Portugal
- The implementation of telemedicine in the stroke care system
- The treatment of reperfusion of acute ischemic stroke
- Stroke and systemic disease
- The prognosis of stroke
- Rehabilitation
- Hemorrhagic stroke
- Polymerization
- Precision Medicine. The patient and not the disease.
At the closing session of the Congress, awards will be given to the best papers and communications, as well as announced the winner of the Stroke Research Award, annually promoted by SPAVC.
