Monothematic Meeting of the Portuguese Society of Gastrenterology 2018
"Colon and rectum polyps" are the theme of the 2018 Monothematic Meeting of the Portuguese Society of Gastrenterology (SPG), which will take place on February 10 at the Oásis Plaza Hotel in Figueira da Foz between 08h00 and 18h00. This meeting is being organized in partnership with the Portuguese Society of Digestive Endoscopy.
The SPG 2018 Monothematic Meeting will address the issue of colon and rectum polyps in several dimensions: the importance of intestinal preparation in obtaining reliable results in colonoscopies; decision making in the presence of polyps; the importance of screening and alternatives for its implementation; the removal of polyps and their modalities.
The meeting ends with the presentation of several clinical and endoscopic cases that reflect the experience of the most important services of our country in this problem.
SPG President Luís Tomé points out that "every year, between 13 and 14 thousand people die following the diagnosis of colon and rectal cancer", which reveals the importance of discussing this issue. Three times more people die in this context in Portugal than in road accidents, and fatalities after road accidents are decreasing and fatalities due to colorectal cancer are increasing, "adds Luís Tomé, who warns of the importance of screening for colon and rectum after 50 years.
