IV SBDN - Brazilian Symposium on Neglected Diseases
The Brazilian Symposium on Neglected Diseases (SBDN) was launched in 2014, from the need to discuss leishmaniasis, which are among the most neglected diseases in the world. Since its second edition, the event has brought to light other issues of relevance, in the context of unique health, with the participation of professionals of international renown. Today, in its fourth edition, we put into question the need to reestablish the bridge between academia and society. It is necessary to disseminate the knowledge produced in the universities in order to reach and contribute to the public and private health administration, with the technological development of the national industry, in order to provide the offer of new products, services and information capable of promoting good being of society.
Currently, the popularization of science, with the dissemination of knowledge developed by universities, has been the focus of the main development agencies in Brazil and in the World. Information and knowledge can not be retained behind the walls of public universities, after all, society maintains these institutions so that we can offer quality education and develop research capable of contributing to the economic and social development of the country. It is imperative that we give due return to the citizens.
The term Neglected Diseases includes a series of infectious and parasitic morbidities of public health importance such as: leprosy, tuberculosis, rabies, leishmaniasis, helminths, Chagas disease, arboviruses, among others. Although responsible for almost half the burden of disease in developing countries and the deaths of one million people a year worldwide, neglected diseases are not considered a priority in the R & D agendas.
Conscious of the relevance of the theme, this event aims to establish a better relationship between Veterinary Medicine, Human Medicine, Environmental Sciences and their related areas, as well as direct application in the search for solutions to the problems faced by society. Following its original proposal, the discussions surrounding the theme of leishmaniasis continue to be a strong point of the event, now permeated by globally neglected themes presented by the best professionals in each area, who will share their knowledge with us, ensuring the scientific success of the event.

In addition to being able to increase its academic and scientific knowledge, IV SBDN will also be an opportunity to review or make friends, appreciating the best of Minas Gerais gastronomy and enjoying the beauties at our University and our Lavras, known as the land of ipes.
